Around the world tributes to the life and works of Robert Burns on his Anniversary, January 25th, are held through the ritual of the Burns Supper.

Basildon Caledonian Society celebrate this Anniversary on the nearest Tuesday to Burn's birthday, with a supper following most of  the traditions of this event.

The Haggis is carried in held high on a Silver salver to the music of the pipes

and Addressed  by one of our Members with great theatricals,& with words written by Robert Burns himself.
" Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
                                          Great chieftain o' the puddin'-race! "

The Bill of Fayre is:           Cock-a-leekie soup
Haggis, warm reeking, rich wi' Champit Tatties
                                        Bashed Neeps
                                        Bread Rolls, freshly baked
                                        Selection of Desserts
A wee dram of whisky or sherry completes the Supper.

Then follows a Toast to his  Immortal Memory, extolling the brilliance of Robert,  "Rabbie" Burns,  and A Toast To The Lassies,  all presented by Members with plenty of wit and humour, hopefully.

Recitals of Burn's own songs and poems are expertly performed again by our own talented  Members.
All this is as a result of careful planning by the Members;  the preparation of

the food is done at home and carried in in hot dishes so that the workload is shared out and all comes together, piping hot and tasty, with the tables well laid out to make an enjoyable evening.

Date of next Supper:-       Tuesday 23rd January 2018
